On Saturday, October 30, 2021, photos and videos were published on social media platforms during a nationwide protest in Sudan to demand the restoration of a civilian-led government after a military coup, which occurred on October 25, 2021. Those protests were met with excessive force, as has been verified by the Sudanese Archive's previous investigations.
On October 30th there were reports of violence across the country and in numerous locations within Khartoum and Omdurman. This investigation verifies only a small number of incidents in these two locations. The team monitored, collected and verified open source, audiovisual materials documenting violence against protesters in Omdurman, Sudan’s most populous city, and on Bashir Elnefeidi Street in Khartoum, the capital.
I worked with the Sudanese Archive to archive, document and investigate what happened on October 30, 2021, and who was responsible for the violence. You can find the full investigation here.
